Spiritland at the Barbican is a separate London outpost rather than an extension of the King’s Cross room. It occupies the Lakeside Room on Level 2 of the Barbican Centre, with a temporary run scheduled through July 2027. The setting is social, with table service and conversation during normal hours, but the programme gives people reasons to listen properly.
The system is built around Living Voice R252 loudspeakers, with Kuzma turntables and amplification from Sugden and SJS Electroacoustics. Living Voice tested the setup in a similarly sized room before installation, then tuned it at the Barbican with absorption, diffusion and reflection. Other sources allow for CD and high-resolution digital playback. Compressed files are the firm line.
Every day starts with a full album at 5pm. Guest selectors move through jazz, soul, classical, ambient and electronica, while talks and dedicated listening sessions bring the room closer to focused listening. This is the larger and more experimental Spiritland, and the system is substantial enough to suit the scale.
