Root Down is a vinyl cocktail bar from Gary Wang, also known as DJ VNutz, with funk, soul, jazz and rare groove at the centre of the room. It sits on Nanchang Road in a warm, narrow space that feels built for records rather than background playlists.
The main room is the one to aim for. Vintage Tannoy speakers give the bar a serious listening anchor, and the best seat is close enough to hear the record selection properly without losing the social pace of the room.
The cocktails are serious, but the system and records are the reason Root Down belongs here. It is best for an early drink, a bar seat, and a night where the selector’s shelves matter as much as the glass in front of you.
