St. Lui is a forthcoming listening bar and lounge at 303 Cashel Street in central Christchurch, near Smokey T’s. The plan draws on Japanese listening bars, with records and a social evening at the centre of the concept. It is not open yet, and an opening date has not been confirmed.
The planned vinyl setup includes a Rega Planar 8 and Technics turntables. That gives record playback a concrete place in the project, though the finished room’s sound and listening atmosphere will have to wait until opening. A Louis Armstrong record was among the selections played during a sneak preview.
St. Lui is one to keep in mind for a future Christchurch visit. Check its official channels before making a trip: the regular music programme, menu and visiting arrangements are still to come.
