Root Down Beijing is a vinyl bar near Sanlitun with the feel of a jazz kissa rather than a normal cocktail bar. It sits inside Jiezhuo Building on Xingfucun Middle Road, with the room built around a wall of records, low light, wood floors and a listening setup rather than screens or background playlists.
The system is centred on Tannoy speakers and McIntosh amplification, with several thousand records behind the bar. The music policy leans into groove-led records: jazz, funk, soul, hip hop, Afro, Brazilian and Latin music. It comes out of the same Beijing rare-groove orbit as fRUITYSHOP, so the record selection is the point, not just decoration.
This is a social listening bar, not a silent-room kissa. Go for records, cocktails and a slower Sanlitun night where the DJ booth and the now-playing shelf matter.
