Murmur is a high-fidelity listening lounge in downtown Providence, built around analogue playback and a large record collection. The main room keeps the music in the foreground without demanding silence. Conversation is welcome, though the house asks guests to keep louder talk under control.
The owners designed the room with an acoustician, using Marmoleum flooring and acoustic treatments to manage the space. Exact component models have not been published. The collection moves through jazz, classic rock, post-punk, punk and hip-hop, with staff choosing records deliberately and sometimes letting albums run as complete sides.
The Den is the more concentrated version of the idea: a small private room with independent hi-fi systems and quadraphonic playback for vinyl and reel-to-reel tape. The main lounge suits drinks, food and social listening; The Den is the better choice for a booked group that wants the system and the records to set the pace.
