Mono by Phono is a small Makati listening bar on the edge of Poblacion, hidden behind the usual Pililia Street nightlife traffic. Inside, the room leans residential: carpeted floors, mid-century furniture, moody lighting, foam-lined walls, and enough vinyl to make the bar feel closer to a private listening room than a standard cocktail spot.
The hi-fi setup doubles as a speaker showroom, so the system is part of the point even when the exact speaker models are not published. The scale is tight, with intimate rooms of roughly 20 people and DJs playing to listeners who are close enough to feel the room change when the next record comes in.
The programming moves beyond polite jazz-bar territory. Mono hosts selectors and nights that run through breakbeat, post-punk, downtempo, soul, rock, bass music, and bring-your-own-vinyl sessions. It is late, small, and music-led: a Manila room for people who want the DJ booth to matter.
