MOGO

Isola, Milan, Italy

MOGO is a large hi-fi restaurant on the northern edge of Milan’s Isola district, built for a more social kind of listening. It covers more than 400 square metres, so this is no hushed record room with twelve stools. The booth, large custom speakers and shelves of vinyl make the musical intent visible from the start.

H.A.N.D. HiFi built the system for the space. Large custom loudspeakers sit near the main consoles, with additional speakers carrying sound through the open room. A McIntosh MC2300 supplies some of the muscle. The scale suits MOGO’s progression from dinner to a busier late session, when the music moves firmly into the foreground.

Polifonic and Burro Studio Records handle the programming, drawing on guest selectors and the founders’ collections. Jazz, soul and ambient can give way to electronic music as the evening develops. Go for a full social night built around food, records and a serious system, rather than the quiet concentration of a traditional jazz kissa.
