Hi-Fi Community

Vila Leopoldina, São Paulo, Brazil

Hi-Fi Community is a much bigger proposition than its name first suggests: a Vila Leopoldina complex with a listening bar, restaurant, rooftop, and club room. The social side is intentional, but the system is not incidental. Japanese vintage equipment, acoustic treatment, and a room developed with AKASHA give the project more substance than the usual bar-plus-DJ formula.

The listening bar favours a warmer, analogue character. Elsewhere, the Hifi Room moves toward a proper dance-floor system, and even the bathrooms use Taguchi speakers. The architecture starts with sound: absorptive materials and off-angle walls shape the venue before the furniture and neon get their say.

Early evening suits food, drinks, and records. Later, the programming moves through Brazilian music, house, electronic music, hip-hop, R&B, disco, and afrobeats. Go knowing that Hi-Fi Community wants both listening and movement, often on the same night.

Sound System

  • Speakers Japanese vintage systems from the 1970s; Taguchi speakers are used in the bathrooms
