ECHO is a listening bar inside Rotterdam’s Groot Handelsgebouw, opposite Centraal station. It opens as a cafe and small retail space during the day, then shifts towards cocktails, records and programmed listening after dark.
The sound system was developed by Form Follows Frequency. Colourful speakers and subwoofers are fitted into Tylko shelving around the room, with two sculptural speaker towers flanking the bar and DJ area. Vinyl is displayed across the walls, and the flexible layout can be rearranged for listening sessions of roughly 20 to 40 people.
Programming includes local record-store collaborations, visiting DJs and seated listening events. Selection matters more than a fixed genre policy. The scheduled sessions are the clearest fit for focused listening; regular evenings keep the room social without treating the system as decoration.
